My first volunteer experience

Sarana Sewana Children's Home
My nationality is Indonesian; studied in Singapore when I was 15 for 2 years, and currently studying in the University of Melbourne. I came to know about AIESEC from the university’s notice board. I have a huge interest and curiosity of going for a volunteer to other parts of the world, stepping out of comfortable zone, and exploring life to a whole new level. At first, the project that I choose is supposed to be in the SOS Children Village, Sri Lanka. However the representative from this Children Home will not allow any more interns coming as they argue that when the interns leave, these children are emotionally and psychologically affected. I am allocated to a similar project, which is in the Sarana Children’s Home where some of them are orphans. The main motive of the project is to spend quality time with them and the aim is to foster their motivation to learn, hoping to see significant improvement in their English skills. This volunteer experience is one of the most memorable experiences of my life. This blog is a record of the daily activities in Sri Lanka for 5 weeks. My trip to Sri Lanka is not the fanciest, classiest and the most comfortable like staying in a five stars hotel. Nonetheless meeting these kids is one of the best things I ever had.
